CrossFit Diet and Probiotics

Probiotics are a great way to increase the benefits from a healthy diet. A CrossFit athlete must not only eat properly, but should also entertain the use of a good probiotic supplement to insure they are using their food energy efficiently. Unfortunately, many of the probiotics sold today are a waste of money and may also be harmful. In this article I would like to make aware, the scams from the legit probiotic supplement.

What is a Probiotic?

Probiotics are one of the fastest growing nutritional supplements out there today. They are now available widespread throughout the USA. You can find them anywhere, from a convenience store to a large box store. A few years ago they were basically limited to health food or nutrition outlets. They have become so popular, that now even the pharmaceutical companies are offering it.

Probiotics are live yeast or bacteria. They are also known as “good bacteria” because they help keep the gut, or digestive system, healthy and functioning optimally. They not only balance the good and bad bacteria, but they also replenish bacteria inside the intestinal wall which may be depleted by antibiotic use or general illness. Most people consume Probiotics by taking yogurt or other types of fermented foods.

Why are Probiotics helpful if I eat a good CrossFit diet?

Granted, it is very important to stick to a good, clean Paleo-type diet. The problem is, no matter how healthy your diet and exercise program, your body will not function optimally if the balance of bacteria found in the digestive tract is out of whack. These bacteria are also found in your mouth, sinus cavities, throat, skin, or urinary tract. As you now probably realize, the good bacteria has a hand in a lot of body functions.

The bacteria in your body is also important in immune function. It helps boost your immunity to infections and assists in the production of vitamins such as K and the B’s. Absorption of minerals is also aided by the good bacteria.

Why the Probiotic you choose is important.

A good probiotic will aid and replenish the healing of the body following a tough workout or even the stresses of life. This assistance is diminished or absent in the presence of a poor probiotic. When choosing the right product, a good probiotic contains certain strains which have been tested in human bodies. Many look impressive on the label, but without human studies, the manufacturer has no idea if it is the correct strain.

The potency of a probiotic is also important. The probiotic needs to contain a proper amount of friendly intestinal flora. A good product should contain a minimum of 3 billion flora per dosage. This sounds like a lot, but trust me, it’s not.

Shelf life is also an important factor. The longer a probiotic sits on a shelf, the less healthy bacteria it has. Some also require refrigeration.

At CrossFit Diet Tips, we recommend a good probiotic in addition to a healthy diet. You will notice the difference, not only in your workouts, but your general health and wellness.

Sincerely,
